Once Upon a Time..
Three lovely, plus sized ladies sat down in a pub. We looked at the clothing choices we had, we discussed the dating sites we saw. We talked a lot about how we were judged, and we - as normal human beings, just on the larger side - were being looked down upon.
And we decided -
'We deserve better than this'
And so the beginnings of plusocial were created. Here's a rough idea of what we're hoping for in the future. Our Manifesto...
What is plusocial.com?
A multimedia social network for Plus size people.
The aim of plusocial.com is to offer advice, reviews, support and a sanctuary for plus sized people. It will neither encourage, nor discourage weight loss, or weight gain, merely recognise that there are people out there who have needs that may differ from people who are averagely sized. It will also recognise that whilst you may not be within the plus size bracket (size 16+), you may still feel uncomfortable in your own skin.
This will be a very consumer lead site, with up to date news, reviews, advice, and subject matters which may crop up from discussions on the forum and blogs made by our members.
We would love to hear from both men and women of all ages, and whilst this isn't a dating site, we also welcome admirers, but would encourage them to visit forums, chat rooms, and our special events.
The site will have lots of information on Plus sized centric subjects. Such as -
Fashion - There will be up to date reviews, pictures and blogs from people within the plus sized ‘fatshionista’ world, as well as from our own members.. We also hope to create relations with suppliers of Plus sized clothing in order to preview upcoming lines. We would like reviews from both male and female members.
Entertainment - We hope to include reviews of the latest films/TV/books and interview celebrities who have recently been involved in plus-centric projects. This could be a wide range of subjects, from plus sized celebrities, to recipe books. We also hope to interview plus sized models, and people who may be involved in plus-centric jobs. Transcripts will be available online, as well as available to listen to within the podcasts.
News - We will be discussing current news topics, highlighting plus-centric topics, and encouraging comments and discussion in the forum.
Health - We will be discussing a wide range of health problems our members may face; from weight related complications, to various medical phenomena that causes weight gain. We will dedicate large section to diabetes and PCOS, which will include advice on how to manage these conditions. We will also include plus-friendly excersises, and try to assure the world that big doesn't automatically equal unhealthy.
Events - Plusocial will hope to eventually organise our own club nights and fashion events. But we will also happily link and discuss the latest events going on around the UK, such as Big Girls Paradise club nights, Lovin’ It Large meets, various fashion events, and other occasions which may arise. We hope the organisers of these events will also build a relationship with plusocial so that we can offer mutual publicity.
Recipes - We will include a nice range of recipes from healthy eating to more indulgent meals. Certain recipes can be included in the links to our diabetes pages, as well as others relating to healthy issues.
Forum - This will be the main focus of the site, with discussions and suggestions taken from our members. Whilst Plusocial is not a dating website, we recognise it will be used for members to meet other people. We will still encourage both sexes to join us, and encourage meet up and events in a safe environment. We will provide members with free profiles in order to find other people with their same interests.
The website will - hopefully - remain totally free to members, with revenue coming from advertisements on the site and podcasts from companies who have an active interest in aiming their advertising towards our target audience.
Podcasts
As part of plusocial.co.uk, we will broadcast 10 minute podcasts each week discussing various subjects which arise on the website, including reviews and interviews. We also hope to encourage people to listen by offering competitions and discounts from our sponsors.
We will invite active forum members to come and discuss subjects that have piqued their interest and will encourage participation from our members
The Plusocial Team xx
